Password-protect PDF — Examples

Add an open password for ID scans, drafts, or anything you email casually.

Updated: 2026-05-08

Example 1: Sensitive scan over email

Encrypt the PDF; share the password via SMS or a separate channel.

Inputs

  • id-scan.pdf

Steps

  1. Choose a strong password.
  2. Encrypt and download.
  3. Never put the password in the same email as the file.

Output

id-scan-protected.pdf

Example 2: Draft agreement

Extra friction before a non-final text circulates widely.

Inputs

  • draft-agreement.pdf

Output

draft-agreement-locked.pdf

Tips

  • If you lose the password, the file is unrecoverable—use a password manager.
  • Encryption hides content; it does not stop someone from keeping a copy they already downloaded.
