Password-protect PDF — Examples
Add an open password for ID scans, drafts, or anything you email casually.
Updated: 2026-05-08
Example 1: Sensitive scan over email
Encrypt the PDF; share the password via SMS or a separate channel.
Inputs
- id-scan.pdf
Steps
- Choose a strong password.
- Encrypt and download.
- Never put the password in the same email as the file.
Output
id-scan-protected.pdf
Example 2: Draft agreement
Extra friction before a non-final text circulates widely.
Inputs
- draft-agreement.pdf
Output
draft-agreement-locked.pdf
Tips
- If you lose the password, the file is unrecoverable—use a password manager.
- Encryption hides content; it does not stop someone from keeping a copy they already downloaded.
